How to Reset MacBook Air
If you are looking to reset your MacBook Air, whether for troubleshooting or preparing it for a new owner, follow these steps to ensure a smooth process.
Step 1: Backup Your Data
Before you proceed with the reset, it’s crucial to backup your data. You can use Time Machine or any other backup method to save your important files.
Step 2: Sign Out of iCloud
Go to System Preferences > Apple ID and sign out of iCloud. This step is important to prevent issues with Activation Lock.
Step 3: Restart in Recovery Mode
Restart your MacBook Air and hold down Command (⌘) + R keys until the Apple logo appears. This will boot your device into Recovery Mode.
Step 4: Erase Your Hard Drive
Once in Recovery Mode, select Disk Utility and choose your startup disk (usually named Macintosh HD). Click Erase and confirm your action.
Step 5: Reinstall macOS
After erasing the disk, exit Disk Utility and select Reinstall macOS. Follow the prompts to complete the installation process.
