How to Make Mozzarella
Making mozzarella at home is a rewarding experience that allows you to enjoy fresh cheese in your dishes. Follow these steps to create your own delicious mozzarella.
Ingredients
- 1 gallon of whole milk
- 1/4 teaspoon of liquid rennet
- 1/4 cup of white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the milk over medium heat until it reaches 190°F (88°C), stirring gently.
- Remove from heat and add the vinegar, stirring for about 30 seconds. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until curds form.
- Using a slotted spoon, transfer the curds to a bowl. Add the rennet and mix gently.
- Let the curds rest for another 5 minutes, then drain off the whey.
- Microwave the curds for 1 minute, then knead and stretch them. Repeat this process until the cheese is smooth and elastic.
- Finally, shape the mozzarella into balls and place them in ice water to cool.
- Sprinkle with salt and enjoy your homemade mozzarella!
