How to Make Mozzarella

Making mozzarella at home is a rewarding experience that allows you to enjoy fresh cheese in your dishes. Follow these steps to create your own delicious mozzarella.

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon of whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon of liquid rennet
  • 1/4 cup of white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the milk over medium heat until it reaches 190°F (88°C), stirring gently.
  2. Remove from heat and add the vinegar, stirring for about 30 seconds. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until curds form.
  3. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the curds to a bowl. Add the rennet and mix gently.
  4. Let the curds rest for another 5 minutes, then drain off the whey.
  5. Microwave the curds for 1 minute, then knead and stretch them. Repeat this process until the cheese is smooth and elastic.
  6. Finally, shape the mozzarella into balls and place them in ice water to cool.
  7. Sprinkle with salt and enjoy your homemade mozzarella!
