How to Make Delicious Carnitas

If you're looking to make succulent carnitas at home, you're in the right place! This traditional Mexican dish features slow-cooked pork that is tender, flavorful, and perfect for tacos, burritos, or simply enjoyed as a main dish.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 pounds of pork shoulder
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of cumin
  • 1 tablespoon of oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 orange, juiced
  • 1 cup of chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Start by cutting the pork shoulder into large chunks. This helps it cook evenly.
  2. In a large pot or slow cooker, add the pork, onion, garlic, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper, orange juice, and chicken broth.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until the pork is tender and shreds easily.
  4. Once cooked, remove the pork from the pot and shred it using two forks.
  5. For crispy edges, spread the shredded pork on a baking sheet and broil for 5-7 minutes.
