How to Exit Vim

Exiting Vim, the popular text editor, can be a bit tricky for beginners. Here are the essential steps you need to follow to exit Vim successfully.

Saving Changes and Exiting

If you want to save your changes and exit Vim, follow these steps:

  1. Press Esc to ensure you are in Normal mode.
  2. Type :wq and press Enter. This command writes (saves) your changes and quits Vim.

Exiting Without Saving

If you wish to exit without saving any changes, do the following:
